Disney, OpenAI partner to bring characters to generative AI

Disney and OpenAI agreed to a three-year licensing and strategic partnership, making Disney the first major content partner for OpenAI's generative video platform, Sora. The deal allows fans to create short, user-prompted videos featuring over 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars (excluding talent likenesses/voices), with a rollout expected in early 2026.

OpenAI to introduce teen-friendly ChatGPT version with parental controls

OpenAI announced plans to introduce a version of its ChatGPT service that would cater to users under the age of 18 alongside parental controls designed to improve safety features for teenagers. This version of the chatbot is expected to debut at the end of September.

The under-18 experience comes as OpenAI and other tech companies face a US Federal Trade Commission inquiry into the possible negative effects of artificial intelligence chatbots on children and teenagers. The company also faces a lawsuit from a family blaming the chatbot for their teenage son's death by suicide.

iOS 26 will integrate ChatGPT-5 into Apple Intelligence

You can expect to access OpenAI's newly launched ChatGPT-5 model when iOS 26 rolls out in September. If Apple Intelligence through Siri can't handle specific requests, it will rely on ChatGPT-5 to help out. The new artificial intelligence model offers improved reasoning capabilities and coding tools, alongside enhanced voice interaction and video perception.

In its current form, ChatGPT can be used selectively within Apple Intelligence to handle tasks like document queries, web searches, and Visual Intelligence on iPhone 15 Pro and later models. You can use these without an OpenAI account, but you can enable subscription benefits with an OpenAI account.

Apple might tap OpenAI, Anthropic to power AI version of Siri

Apple is reportedly considering outside help to run its artificial intelligence-powered version of Siri. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the tech giant approached OpenAI and Anthropic to develop versions of their large language models for testing on its private cloud infrastructure, aiming to create an "LLM Siri."
