Apple updates Mac Studio with M5 Ultra, M5 Max

If you need more power from your Macs, Apple also refreshed its Mac Studio line to run on the new M5 Ultra or the M5 Max processors. With the M5 Ultra, Apple claims up to 4.3 times "peak AI compute performance of M3 Ultra." It's configurable to a CPU with up to 36 cores and a GPU with up to 80 cores. At launch, you can get up to 256GB of RAM, but Apple will later offer the option to upgrade to 512GB.

Apple debuts beefed-up MacBook Pro with new M5 Pro, M5 Max chips

Apple expanded its laptop lineup with the debut of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Externally, they look similar to their predecessors, while the internals received a massive overhaul centred on a new "Fusion Architecture." These chips feature an 18-core CPU with "super cores" that Apple claims are the fastest in the world, delivering a 30% boost in overall performance. Additionally, base storage has been doubled, with M5 Pro models now starting at 1TB and M5 Max models at 2TB.

One of its significant leaps arrives in the form of artificial intelligence processing and specialized hardware. Each GPU core now includes a Neural Accelerator, enabling M5 Pro and M5 Max to process LLM prompts up to four times faster than the previous generation. Professionals will also see a 50% increase in graphics performance and SSD speeds that are twice as fast as before, reaching up to 14.5GB/s.

Apple M5 chip-powered devices expected this week

We might see the new MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro with the latest Apple silicon released this week. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, we should expect the upgraded tablet, a new Vision Pro with a redesigned strap, and a base model MacBook Pro—all powered by the Apple M5. Apple isn't expected to hold an event. Instead, it'll just have online announcements like they did last year.
