Review: Kindle Oasis (2017)

2017 marks the 10th year anniversary of the Kindle eBook reader which is truly one of the revolutionary inventions of our time.

Amazon's Kindle ushered in the era of eReaders, which have made it possible to simulate the visual quality of paper on an electronic device capable of carrying thousands of books and documents but which is thin and surprisingly light.

The early Kindle was a beast by today's standards. It tried to do too much. It came with a QWERTY keyboard, a web browser and probably an e-mail client. This was at a time when smartphones were BlackBerry devices and not iPhones, so you get the idea.

Rakuten Kobo launches subscription service for audiobooks

Good news for booklovers! Rakuten Kobo announces the addition of audiobooks to the Kobo experience. Readers are now able to selected how to enjoy their books across all genres through a monthly subscription plan.

Kobo customers can subscribe at $12.99 a month and with a 30-day free trial period to access the audiobooks. Customers can redeem their monthly credit for any audiobook at Kobo.com, even if its list price is higher. Audiobooks can also be purchased a la carte.

Kobo Emerging Writer Prize Winners Announced 

Rakuten Kobo announced this year's Emerging Writer Prize recipients -- the best Canadian authors of debut books who published in 2016 calendar year. Winners were selected among a shortlist of talented Canadian authors, chosen by Kobo's team of booksellers, with book completion rates, customer ratings and reviews taken into consideration. A winner in each of the Literary Fiction, Speculative Fiction, and Non-Fiction categories receives a $10,000 CAD cash prize as well as promotional, marketing, and communications support to help kick off their burgeoning careers. Kobo's top Valentine's Day sneaky read list

You can shower your Valentine with chocolates and gummy bears but there's just something more delicious in a really good read. When I asked my friends what book came to mind as an indulgent steamy read many tell me that Fifty Shades of Grey was their first pick. Are you surprised? Didn't think so. However, shading books like this from the eyes of strangers on the bus, coworkers, and kids made them self-conscious. But those who had it on their eReaders felt they could really surrender into their books without hesitation.
